Jukebox Johnny performing at The Magnolia Room, Morganton, NC

John Savage, aka “Jukebox Johnny”, is a lifelong musician with an expansive range of influences who picked up a guitar at age 14 and never put it back down. He studied classical guitar with Daniel Salazar at the University of Rhode Island, honing his chops in rock bands, jazz combos, orchestra pits, and in solo performances. He also sings and has performed on various plucked-string instruments from around the world, including the mandolin and mandola, the sitar, and the oud.

John has the gift of perfect pitch and can learn any song upon first hearing. Combined with his guitar skills, this has enabled him to amass an enormous repertoire of music he can perform. His college friends would give him impromptu “tests” by calling out song titles at random to see if he could play them. Thus, he was dubbed “Jukebox Johnny” and the nickname stuck.

John is passionate about creating meaningful experiences for his audiences, whatever the size and context, and uses his unique gifts to customize concerts to meet their needs.
